Welcome President!
(2015-2016), inkjet printing on haini paper, 500x200cm.
Installation based on the cataloging of ads from companies from the 60s, 70s and 80s, published in the newspaper A Gazeta, in circulation in the city of Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo.
The dates of the newspaper used for cataloging were based on the visit of the military presidents in Capixaba lands for the inauguration of the so-called Large Projects (Porto de Tubarão, Samarco Mineração, Aracruz Celulose, Companhia Siderúrgica de Tubarão, among others) aimed at exporting commodities in the state. This material was printed using an inkjet printer on haini paper.
The work addresses the modernizing discourse in Brazil throughout the military regime and its alliances of power in the press. The images are affixed to the wall of the exhibition space only at the upper tips of the paper, leaving the work with lightness, transparency and movement by the action of the wind currents in the space.
The ads published in the newspaper were cataloged from the material available in microfilm of the Public Archive of the State, which, at the request of the artist, were scanned. As an artistic proposal, the cataloging seeks to point out the relationship between military and private initiative, therefore, it presents the newspaper as a public space for discussion and ideological arm of the regime.
